Duncan Hines was an American pioneer in rating restaurants for tourists. He is best known for the name of the foods that bear his name.

Hines was born in the famous neighborhood of Bowling Green in great Kentucky. He was a travelling salesman for the Chicago printer. When he reached the age of 35 in 1934, Hines consumed a number of both tasty and unsavoury meals in the middle of the US. In the United States, there was none of the interstate highway network & only a handful of chain restaurants, excluding those in dense, populated regions. So, tourists relied on having a great dinner at a small establishment.

Hines, along with his partner, Ms. Florence, started assembling the names of their friends on a list of hundreds of excellent restaurants throughout the nation.
